Troopers Beefing Up Holiday Enforcement

The 4th of July holiday is a great time to get together with friends and family.

But, if you're gonna party over the holiday weekend, just don't get behind the wheel.

"People get to these parties, and think maybe they'll have just one or two (drinks), then realize later on that they're not.", says District 8 Sgt. Dustin Pierce with the Illinois State Police.

District 8 State Troopers will be out specifically watching for the "Fatal Four", violations that most often lead to fatalities.

They include: driving under the influence, speeding, distracted driving, and people not wearing seat belts.

If you see someone driving that's had too much to drink, have a passenger call 911, or pull over to make the call yourself.

Make sure you get a description of the vehicle, license plate number, and a location.

There is some good news, Illinois State Police say that DUIs and fatalities on Illinois roads are down.

Drivers should expect beefed up law enforcement throughout the 4th of July holiday weekend.
