The National Weather Service is forecasting strong to severe storms throughout the Central Illinois area later Saturday afternoon into Saturday evening.
The primary threats will be dangerous straight-line winds gusts up to 75 miles an hour and heavy rain, although an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.
The primary time frame is from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. Saturday. The storm activity the NWS is watching is in northwest Missouri as of 11 a.m. Storm activity is forecasted to begin west of I-55 between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Forecast models show the heaviest storm activity from the system moving to the south of Peoria -- mainly south of I-72, but weather service officials say even if that happens, Peoria could still get strong gusty winds and heavy rain from the storms.
The National Weather Service says if the WMBD listening area will be placed under any watches, they may be issued by mid-day Saturday.
