Dollar General will not relocate to Pekin's West Campus, for now.
A development company, RSBR Investments, wants to move the bargain store to the site of the old Pekin High School.
But, in order for that to happen, the land must be rezoned from "single family residential" to "general business district". Wednesday night, the Pekin Planning Commission voted against the request.
Pekin Councilman John Abel tells News Partner News 25, "No one is particularly in favor of this business going there, they're not against the business, by any means, we all shop there, they just don't think it belongs on the West Campus property."
Some Pekin residents suggest the space could be a better fit for green space or trails.
The Pekin City Council will vote on the planning commission's recommendation on July 14th.
