Shootings down 25-percent in Peoria in last two weeks

Shootings in the city of Peoria have been reduced 25-percent in the last two weeks. That's according to statistics released Friday by the Peoria Police Department.

The new police task force formed after a surge in gun violence has been out for two weeks and Capitan Mike Scally says the gun play has subsided significantly. Officers have also made 135 arrests, 690 traffic stops and 17 guns seized. Scally also reports officers have taken possession of over 37 grams of controlled substances and 255 grams of cannabis.

Most of that action occurred in the designated hot spots on the south end of town. Peoria Police Chief Steve Settingsgaard is now considering shifting the hot spots to other areas now that the original zones have calmed.

The photo shows the comparison of the city hot zones before the task force and now with the task force patrols.
