Power Goes Down As Temperatures Soar

It's not good news on the hottest day of the summer.

More than 1,500 Ameren Illinois customers in Peoria had their power cut off late Monday afternoon, according to the utility's outage map. The widespread outage was reported around 5:30 p.m., affecting areas south of War Memorial Drive and west of Knoxville Ave.

It wasn't clear what caused the outage, which came as temperatures hit the mid-90s and heat indeces soared past 110 degrees. Ameren's outage map showed most of the customers had service restored by 6:20 p.m. Monday.

The utility expected to have the rest of the customers back online by 8:00 p.m.
