A man accused of trying to abduct a child in Pekin has been arrested.
Police say Thomas Anthony, 55, of Dubuque, Iowa, tried to lure a six-year-old boy away from his mother at Hardee's on North 5th Street on Sunday morning. Three men in the restaurant were able to intervene, though, and sent Anthony on his way after a brief confrontation. One of the men who stopped the attempted kidnapping was able to also grab a picture of Anthony and his truck.
Anthony was later arrested at a Walmart in Lincoln, where he allegedly approached another young boy. The child's mother recognized Anthony from the pictures taken at Hardee's, which were widely circulated on social and traditional media, and called police immediately.
Pekin detectives picked up Anthony and took him to the Tazewell County Jail, where he remains held.
