PEORIA, Ill. – A South Peoria man is going to prison for decades after being convicted in October of a murder from the year prior.
Court records indicate a judge has handed Ontario Alexander, 30, 50 years in prison for a count of murder, and another two years for possession of a weapon by a felon.
Alexander gets day for day credit for the weapon conviction; but, under the state’s Truth in Sentencing law, he must serve the entire 50 year sentence before he can be released.
Alexander shot and killed Roosevelt Hunter III, 28, outside a North Shipman Street apartment complex in November of 2020.
The conviction came after a jury deadlocked the first time Alexander was tried earlier in the year.
