A move to cut funding for the Peoria Area Convention and Visitor's Bureau has been put on hold by the Peoria City Council.
City Manager Patrick Urich wanted to reduce funding in the 2012 budget for the PACVB by $445,000. The council voted Thursday night to put that on hold until February to allow for more discussion about what is done with that funding.
Councilman Gary Sandberg didn't want to wait though. He says the PACVB is the only organization that hasn't felt the sting of budget cuts. He says the only way to get a more cost effective PACVB is to force them into it by making cuts.
Over two dozen supporters of the Convention and Visitor's Bureau showed up to voice support for the group. PACVB officials plan to being the city council a plan for how the dollars are spent between now and February.
