The Peoria Park District Board of Trustees approves a $44-million budget. Cost saving measures include the closing of Detweiler Golf Course, now to be maintained as part of Detweiler Park. But area golfers complain to the board about a planned revenue source of a $200 hike in season golf fees to $725. The Journal Star says golfers questioned why they should pay more to play on golf courses plagued with problems ranging from crabgrass at Donovan Golf Course to drainage problems at Newman. The board will now review its golf budget further.
