PHS Construction Delays May Be Ending

AT&T has removed a cross box from the construction site of new athletic fields at Peoria High School. However, a concrete vault containing fiber optics remains.

District 150 Chief Financial Officer Mark Wilcockson told the school board this week the presence of the cross box was causing construction delays. The district had paid AT&T $80,000 upfront in June for its removal.

Wilcockson told the board the latest information he received was the box would be removed by the end of August, but, he also said the utility was "somewhat less responsive than we hoped they would be."

AT&T Illinois responded to a request from 1470 & 100.3 WMBD for comment with a one sentence e-mailed statement which read, "The equipment is scheduled to be removed by the end of this week."

By Wednesday morning, the cross box in question had been removed. AT&T crews returned to the site around 8:45 a.m. Wednesday and within 20 minutes removed a second cross box from the site.

But the concrete vault containing fiber optics located near the original cross box in question remains. Wilcockson says that also needs to be removed before construction crews can adequately work in the area.

Board member Martha Ross had suggested AT&T be billed for any change orders the district may have to pay as a result of construction delays.
