One of a half dozen suspects in a revenge-fueled attack at a Peoria public housing complex is in custody.
Police arrested Alexcis Jones, 32, on Monday night. Jones was allegedly among six people who forced their way inside a Taft Homes apartment early Sunday morning to beat up a 22-year-old woman. The victim says one of her assailants threatened her with a knife, while the others repeatedly punched and kicked her. She says a friend in the apartment was choked, too. According to a police report, the victim believes she was targeted because she had helped the State's Attorney's Office with a case.
Jones was arrested for home invasion, intimidation, mob action, battery, and assault charges. Assistant Police Chief Mike Eddlemon could not say exactly what Jones' role may have been in the attack.
Eddlemon says officers are tracking down other suspects in the case, and more arrests may be made in the near future. Meanwhile, the State's Attorney's Office is helping the victim find a new place to live.
