The Peoria Jaycees 33rd annual Firecracker 5000 gets the Fourth of July off to a running start with Nathan Davis leading the way.
"It's always fun to win a race on my birthday," Davis tells 1470 & 100.3 WMBD.
This is the second straight year Davis celebrates his birthday by winning the race.
"I wasn't expecting to much from this. I decided to just go out there and have fun, and I had fun."
This is the second straight year Davis, who just graduated from Bradley, celebrates his birthday by winning the race.
Davis, 22, competed in track and cross-country at BU. He'll pursue his master's at Oregon State. While he's used up his college eligibility, Davis plans to run in the Portland Marathon.
"There's no feeling like it than getting done and having that sense of accomplishment," Davis says. "Whether you run four miles, or run a marathon or whether you run your first mile. It's just a great feeling knowing you can do something."
Proceeds from the Firecracker 5000 go to support JDRF and the Greater Peoria Honor Flight.
