Illinois Red Cross Chapters hold Earthquake Drill

How would the American Red Cross respond in the event of an earthquake in Illinois? That was the purpose of an earthquake drill Wednesday in Morton which included eight Red Cross chapters in 27 counties.

The scenario was an earthquake in the southern part of the state, which caused minor damage here. Alyssa Pollock with the Central Illinois Chapter organized the event. She says its vital to be prepared for this kind of event. She says there would be little time to plan in a real event so prior planning is key.

Scott Vogel with the Bloomington Chapter says the chapters were grouped off and then worked together to respond to those in need. He says this is more of a life like event than just sitting in the classroom.

The chapters in the central part of the state would most likely serve as supporting chapters if the New Madrid fault ever produced a massive earthquake.
