PEORIA, Ill. — Illinois’ primary election is just about a month away, and early voting began Thursday.
Thomas Bride, Executive Director of the Peoria County Election Commission, said in order to vote early in the primary, you do have be registered.
“But, if they’re not previously registered, or if they need to update their registration, we’ll do that at the same time, and then be able to issue the ballot,” Bride said.
There is an additional question voters are asked in a primary election.
“They’ll come in, they’ll state their name and their address. And, because it’s a primary election, they’ll have to say which party’s ballot they want,” Bride said.
The primary election is being held on June 28, a time when many families are busy with summer sports or vacations.
Bride said voting early is one small way to simplify your summer calendar.
Mail in ballots can also be sent out to voters who request them.
