Drunken Chase Ends At Avanti's Dome

An early morning car chase in Pekin ended on a baseball field.

Police say Gerald Wright took off around 12:06 a.m. Thursday after officers tried to stop him at Steak and Shake, where he was allegedly causing problems after hitting a car in the drive-through. Wright sped up Vandever Avenue, police say, and hopped the curb of the T-intersection at Griffin.

According to police, Wright plowed through a fence and wound up on one of the outdoor fields at the Avanti's Dome compex.

Wright was arrested for DUI and driving with a suspended license. He was also ticketed for disobeying a stop sign. Wright was taken to the Tazewell County Jail after being checked out at the hospital.
