Boy Knocked Out As Bike Hits Van

Two kids were rushed to a hospital Friday afternoon after their bicycle slams into a van on Peoria's south side.

"There's an indentation in the door where either the bike or someone's head struck it," says Peoria Police Sgt. Jerry Bainter.

Bainter says one of the kids was knocked out by the impact of the collision at Martin Luther King Drive and Malvern Lane. The other kid suffered minor injuries.

Bainter says one of the kids was riding on the handlebars and the bike did not have brakes.

"They tried to use their feet to get it stopped and were unable to do so," Bainter says.

Bainter says the kids were among a group of bicyclists racing down the Malvern Lane hill.

"At least one of them stood behind and helped the officers try to find the parents of the boys who were injured," Bainter says.
