An effort to grant Archbishop Fulton Sheen sainthood took place in Peoria Sunday morning. Documents were presented before congregants at the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception in an effort to honor Sheen. Bishop Daniel Jenky led to ceremony.
"Sheen was not just a local boy, he was known throughout the country and throughout the world and there is great support for this cause," says Bishop Daniel Jenky
The documents are a finished investigation into a miracle attributed to the El Paso native. They were signed and sealed and will be sent to Rome for beatification. Bishop Jenky even wore Bishop Sheen's pectoral cross. He is encouraged and enthusiastic that a man who was made a priest in Peoria may some day be made a Saint.
"As unworthy as I am serving as a Bishop, I think Bishop Fulton Sheen is a great inspiration for anyone who has tried to serve Christ, because he gave everything he had twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week," Bishop Jenky adds.
Jenky spoke to WEEK News 25. He says there's no telling whether the Pope may or may not approve this alleged miracle.
