Beaman Wants An Outside Judge

(AP) - An Illinois man who was imprisoned before DNA evidence cleared him of murder says he wants a judge outside his judicial district to hear his lawsuit accusing authorities of malicious prosecution.

Alan Beaman has filed suit against the city of Normal and three police officers, saying they conspired to frame him for the death of his girlfriend. The Bloomington Pantagraph reports Beaman's attorney argues in a court filing that the case should be heard outside the 11th Judicial Circuit because there is the potential for conflict of interest.

Beaman was convicted in the 1993 strangulation death of Illinois State University student Jennifer Lockmiller and spent 13 years in prison. The Illinois Supreme Court reversed his conviction in 2008.

The city and officers have denied the allegations.
