724th Unit Soldiers Return After A Year In Iraq
The ultimate accomplishment for the 166 soldiers who left for Iraq a year ago, was to have all 166 return. That goal was met Thursday as the 724th Transportation Unit based in Bartonville returned from deployment. Families, friends and supporters turned out at the training center as two motorcoachs pulled into their base led by the Guardian Angels.
Lt. Colonel Bruce Hoover is the Executive officer of the 206th Regional Support Group tied to the 724th. He says these returning soldiers had a more dangerous mission than most would think. They were responsible for transporting supplies on the highways in the war zone. The Lt. Colonel says the highways can be the most dangerous of areas for insurgent activity in Iraq. The soldiers arrived back in Bartonville about 1230pm.
