PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria Firefighter/Paramedics responded to a large scrap yard fire Tuesday at Allied Industries located at 2600 W. Clark around 4:30 p.m.
Large plume of black and grey smoke rose into the sky as fire crews battled the blaze from a large pile of cars next to the scrap shredder.
Peoria Battalion Chief Ralph Phillips said that it took a while for firefighters to extinguish the blaze, as the fire pretty deep seated.
“The blaze was in a stack of cars that stood about 50 ft. high next to the scarp shredder.
It took some time to pull apart the scarp to get all wet down,” said Phillips.
An aerial truck was used from the ground and a second aerial truck was deployed from the bridge.
Traffic had to be shut down on both lanes of Rt. 24 / SW Adams for approximately 2 hours.
There were no reports of injuries.
